Protect your health with innovative EVAR procedure!
Aortic aneurysm is a serious condition that requires careful attention and modern treatment methods. Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR) is an advanced, minimally invasive procedure that effectively and safely eliminates the aneurysm, minimizing risks and ensuring quick recovery.
Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR), also known as Endovascular Aortic Repair, is a minimally invasive procedure for treating aortic aneurysms, particularly abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA). Here are the key aspects of this procedure:
EVAR involves inserting a stent-graft (a tube made of a metal mesh covered with synthetic material) through an artery, usually the femoral artery, to the site of the aneurysm. The stent-graft is placed inside the aneurysm, creating a new channel for blood flow and reducing pressure on the aneurysm walls, preventing its rupture.
Indications for EVAR
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) with a diameter greater than 5.5 cm
- Rapidly growing aneurysms
- Symptomatic aneurysms
- Aneurysms causing complications such as thrombosis or embolism
Preparation and conduct of the ERA procedure
The patient receives local or general anesthesia. A catheter is inserted into the femoral artery through a small incision in the groin. Under X-ray control, the catheter is advanced to the site of the aneurysm. The stent-graft is deployed and fixed inside the aneurysm. The catheter is removed, and the incision is sutured. Regular monitoring with CT or MRI is necessary to control the condition of the stent-graft. Anticoagulants or antiplatelet agents are prescribed to prevent thrombosis. Blood pressure and other risk factors are monitored.
Distinctive advantages of EVAR
- Fewer complications compared to open surgery
- Quick recovery and shorter hospital stay
- Less blood loss
- Less postoperative pain
Contraindications for EVAR. Be cautious and consult your doctor
- Anatomical features making the procedure technically challenging
- Infections in the aneurysm area
- Severe concomitant diseases making the procedure risky
EVAR is an effective and safe method for treating aortic aneurysms, especially for patients with high surgical risk. However, like any medical procedure, it requires careful planning and subsequent monitoring.
